What is a contactless card?
Contactless cards, otherwise known as tap to pay, use near field communication (NFC) to securely complete payments at a contactless-enabled merchant terminal.
Why is GPO issuing members contactless cards?
GPO will be issuing contactless debit and credit cards for a better member payment experience. Contactless cards are a faster payment method with enhanced card security.
When will I receive my contactless card(s)?
GPO Members will receive their contactless cards upon expiration of their current debit or credit cards. You should expect your new contactless card sometime during your current card’s expiration month. For example, if you card expires 09/21 you will receive your contactless card sometime in September of 2021. Your current card is valid thru September 30, 2021.
My card expired and I didn’t receive a new contactless card?
No one should be without a card. However, if your address is not up to date in our system, you may not receive your new contactless card. If you have not received your new card by the 15th of the expiration month, Please contact GPO’s Member Service Center at 315-724-1654.
Do I need to request a contactless card?
No, you will automatically receive a new contactless card in the mail upon your current card’s expiration.
Will my card number change?
Yes, for security your card number, expiration date and CVV code have changed.
Will my PIN change?
Yes, upon calling and activating your card, you will be asked to set up a PIN.
Will I need to update my automatic or reoccurring card payments?
Yes, you will have to update any auto pay accounts/recurring payments you currently have set-up.
When will my current card become inactive?
Cards expire at month-end of expirations date printed on your card OR when your new card is activated – whichever is first.
How do I know if a merchant accepts contactless cards?
Merchants will identify with the contactless symbol on the payment terminal or where payment options are displayed if they accept contactless payment.
Can I still use my card as a chip or swipe for merchants who do not have contactless payments or tap to pay?
Yes, you can still use your contactless card by inserting it or by swiping it if contactless and chip options are not available on the terminal.
